On March 27, 2020, three young volunteers from the Weltwärts programme who were staying in Cameroon for 12 months left Africa in miniature to return to their families in Germany. This is the sad fate imposed by COVID-19. In view of the continuously worsening situation regarding the spread of the new Coronavirus, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development had no choice but to issue the “urgent recommendation to all Weltwarts volunteers to return to Germany”.
Joshua, Laura and Luca, who were among the seven AFS volunteers in Cameroon, had to stop their volunteer service while they still had four months left on Cameroonian soil. DMJ therefore organized a farewell party for them that did not last more than 10 minutes. Members of the operational team at headquarters symbolically handed to them souvenirs from Cameroon. While everything was set for these youngsters to live the African Championship of Football Nations (CHAN) scheduled for April 2020, the killer Corona virus broke in to break this dream and the dream of discovering the deep Cameroon planned in advance of the event.
Thus man proposes God disposes. But an appointment is made with them for later, even in another framework than that of the Weltwärts program, if their families can agree so.
